Welcome to our website. Our mission is to rescue, foster and rehome domestically bred pet skunks throughout the State of Florida and the U.S. We accept pet skunks whose owners can no longer keep them no matter the reason. If you know of an injured wild skunk or have rescued a wild skunk we can provide you with a contact who can help. We are available to answer questions for those thinking about getting a pet skunk or for those that already own a pet skunk and may need help with diet, behavior, etc.
Education is a also big part of what we do. We educate people about skunks and having a skunk as a pet through schools, kids camps, adoption events, etc. If you would like us to attend one of your events, please contact us as soon as possible as our dates get booked quickly.

Would you ever consider a skunk for a pet?🦨🤔

January 8, 2023 - This morning in Rescues in Action, we have Piper with Florida Skunk Rescue here looking for a home and warm lap to cuddle up in! She is SO fluffy and so sweet. She'll make a GREAT pet and companion!!

December 15, 2022 - Dr. Raz Peress, Dr. Scott Rose, and the wonderful staff at Veterinary Surgery Center of Sarasota were the recipients of the Jane Bone Award from Florida Skunk Rescue and Skunks as Pets. Dr. Peress had to amputate the injured leg of our rescue skunk, Gus, and, as a result, gave him a bright future. Gus has made a miraculous recovery, and watching him run around, you would never know he was missing a limb. This award is given annually in Jane Bone's memory to someone who exemplifies her mission as demonstrated by Dr. Peress and Veterinary Surgery Center. Jane had a passion for skunks and was a pioneer in researching the proper care and diet for domestic skunks. She started Skunks as Pets to spread this knowledge, and had skunk owners as well as Veterinarians calling her for help. If your pet needs surgical care, we highly recommend Veterinary Surgery Center of Sarasota because you will not find a more caring group of people to tend to your pet's needs.
